Heat Networks & District Energy Planning · UK

The right plan for every team.

Plans scale with your team size, project volume, and deployment needs. As Heat Network Zoning rolls out across England, more feasibility work is landing — and it has to stand up to closer scrutiny.

For the cost of a consulting day per month, save 3–5 days per project.

Energy concepts delivered per year10
Feasibility studies, district concepts, campus analyses, heat network zoning submissions
Hours per concept today (manual workflow)120 hrs
Data preparation through scenario analysis to client report. Typical district concept: 80–200 hrs.
Fully-loaded internal cost per engineer hour£ 75 /hr
Salary + overhead. UK engineering consultant: ~£65–85/hr internal cost.
Client billing rate£ 150 /hr
UK engineering firms typically bill £120–180/hr for energy specialists.
Expected time reduction per concept
Based on reported Sympheny customer outcomes across the full planning workflow. Conservative (40%) is more typical in the first year of use; Typical (60%) reflects established teams; High-impact (75%) matches the Solar Impulse Foundation independent benchmark.
Estimated hours freed per year
720
hours freed per year
Equivalent to £54k of internal planning capacity
Value of time freed
£54k
Internal capacity at fully-loaded cost
Capacity for additional client work
£108k
If freed hours are directed to new projects

15
With the same team and time budget
At this project volume, the estimated value of time saved can exceed Sympheny's annual licence cost within the first project.

Hours freed per year720 hrs
Value of time freed£54,000

Formulas usedConcepts per year × hours per concept × time reduction = hours freed
Hours freed × internal cost rate = value of time freed
Hours freed × billing rate = capacity for additional client work
These estimates are directional and intended to support internal business-case discussions. Actual savings depend on project complexity, data availability, workflow, and team adoption. Time reduction benchmarks are based on reported Sympheny customer outcomes; the 75% figure is consistent with the Solar Impulse Foundation independent impact assessment. UK internal cost benchmarks based on published 2025 salary data for energy sector professionals. GBP licence threshold: £16,000/year. Other currencies shown for cross-geography comparison.

Built for procurement

Security, privacy, and procurement readiness

Sympheny is a Swiss company built around European data protection standards, fully aligned with UK GDPR. Here's what your security, IT, and procurement teams typically want to know upfront.

EU-hosted by default

Project data is hosted on AWS in Stockholm, Sweden. Customer relationship data is managed in Salesforce, hosted in Frankfurt, Germany.

Data residency options

Enterprise customers can specify data residency requirements, including UK and US deployment, and we'll work through the options with you during procurement.

Customer data remains yours

We don't resell, archive, or repurpose your project data. After cancellation, data is exported and then deleted in line with GDPR.

GDPR and UK GDPR aligned

Fully GDPR compliant and aligned with UK GDPR. Payments handled by certified third-party processors. Swiss company with nDSG compliance as well.

Transparent sub-processors

We publish the sub-processors involved in delivering Sympheny so your team can review them as part of any vendor assessment.

No customer data trains our AI

MILP optimisation is deterministic — no AI in the calculations. ML forecasting is opt-in. Either way, your project data never trains any model, ours or anyone else's.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to get value from Sympheny?
If you've worked with optimisation or energy-system modelling before, you'll have a solid grip on Sympheny in under a week. Once your workflows are set, most studies take around 30 minutes to build. New users usually pick up the basics after a 1-hour onboarding and a few hours of practice: generating demand and PV profiles, sizing a PV-plus-battery system from an example, and comparing scenarios.
Do all users need to be optimisation experts?
No. Most organisations run Sympheny with one expert user and a handful of occasional ones. The expert takes on the advanced modelling questions. Everyone else runs simpler, repeatable workflows, with backup from internal specialists and our team when they need it.
How does the evaluation process work?
Most teams start with a scoped, guided evaluation on one of their real projects. We set up the platform with you, configure the inputs to your context, and run a representative scenario together. By the end you have a concrete result and a clear sense of whether Sympheny fits, before you commit to anything. If you need more time on the pilot, we can extend it.
Can Sympheny handle Heat Network Zoning requirements?
Yes. Sympheny is well suited to the technical analysis behind Heat Network Zoning — building and district-level demand modelling, multi-scenario comparison, cost and CO₂ trade-offs, and the kind of documented, client-ready outputs that regulators and funders expect. If you're scoping a Zoning submission or feasibility study, book a demo and we'll walk through how the platform maps to your workflow.
Is our project data hosted in the UK or EU?
Project data is hosted on AWS in Stockholm, Sweden, inside the EU. Sympheny is a Swiss company and fully GDPR compliant. We also comply with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (nDSG). If you have specific UK data residency requirements, contact us and we'll walk through the options. Enterprise customers can discuss dedicated deployment arrangements.
Can I switch plans later?
Yes. You can move up or down as your needs change, and your Sympheny contact will handle the switch with you.
What happens to our data if we cancel?
After you cancel, your data stays accessible during an export window. Contact us for the exact terms. Once that window closes, we permanently delete it from our servers, as GDPR requires. We never retain, resell, or archive your project data.
Do you offer special terms for educational institutions?
Yes, we have a dedicated programme for universities, research groups, and individual students. See our Education & Research page.
What happens if I go over my project limit on the Essential plan?
If you need more than 3 projects, you'll need to upgrade to the Professional plan. Your existing projects will remain accessible.
